"ACROSS" explores three different interwoven stories created by the ‘forgotten war’ in Yemen

- an ex-Yemeni official trying to survive in Jeju Island; an anti-war activist campaigning

against the German weapon company in Sardinia; and a human rights lawyer in Berlin filing war crime lawsuits

against arms exporters.

Synopsis

Due to the request of concerning parties, the referring materials will not be opened.

Director's Statement

When a group of 500 Yemenis arrived on Jeju Island in June 2018, irrational rumors about them quickly spread and sparked my interest in making this project. I could imagine what trials they would experience in Korean society, which is still largely homogeneous, as the Yemenis attempted to navigate their new environment as ‘strangers’. I wanted to show what happened behind the scenes - how and why they ended up in Korea. I believe I'm the right person to tell this story of global causality, as I am based both in South Korea and Germany, as an insider and a migrant, with an understanding of international politics.
