Synopsis

When he was 12 years old, he started playing the cello as part of music therapy. 28-year-old Dong-han is autistic. He is currently studying and performing as a music school graduate student. Dong-han is always with his mother, Hae-sook. She protects her only son like a shadow, whether he performs or goes to school. At the suggestion of a philanthropist, Dong-han joins the five-member quintet Small Big as a cellist. It is difficult to turn down an offer that guarantees a monthly pay after two years, a living space for all the members, and continued support even after their parents¡¯ death. Because the team members are all developmentally disabled like Dong-han, they are joined by their mothers during practices and performances, bringing up the number to 10 people. The mothers, however, are exhausted by the busy performance schedules and are unhappy with the way practices are run behind the scenes. The instructor in charge of Small Big ultimately gets caught in a case of overdue wages, and the team is at risk of disbanding. Together with 18 mothers of disabled performers, Hae-sook forms a new orchestra called Laonjena. The mothers become proactive in searching for an instructor, setting up practice schedules, and organizing performances on their own. But because misery loves company, the mothers soon get into conflict over differences of opinion. Dong-han and his fellow team members, who had been dreaming different dreams from those of their mothers all along, get absorbed into practice today as well.
