Synopsis

In 1965, following a failed coup d'etat, many Indonesians that were accused of being affiliated with the Indonesian Communist Party were arrested, tortured, raped, and killed. The tragedy that affected hundreds of thousands people was never openly acknowledged by the Indonesian government. The survivors of this tragedy suffered a deep stigma and discrimination until now. Song For My Children tells the story of a group of elderly female survivors of 1965 tragedy and members of their family, who formed a choir group known as Dialita. They sing songs that were written by 1965 political prisoners in jail as well as other well-known songs that have been silenced for more than fifty years.
