DMZ Docs Industry Project Submission FAQ

  • 1. I didn't receive a confirmation email with the password after registering my name and email address, what should I do?
  • After registering your name and email, you should receive an email with your password. If you don't receive an email within 24 hours, please check your spam mail first. If it's not in your spam mail, please contact the DMZ Docs Industry team (submit.industry@dmzdocs.com or industry@dmzdocs.com)
  • 2. I keep getting an error when entering my password.
  • When entering your password, please carefully distinguish between the capital and small letter. If you copy your password, it may include spaces, so please enter it manually. If you are still unable to log in, please contact the DMZ Docs Industry team.
  • 3. Can I apply for a short documentary project?
  • For THE VODA FUND and DMZ Docs Pitch, only feature-length documentary projects For DMZ Docs Pitch, only feature-length documentary (over 60 minutes) are eligible.
  • 4. Can I apply for more than a project?
  • The same applicant can only apply for one project in each category. If you submit to DMZ Docs Fund, you cannot submit to DMZ Docs Pitch in the same year. However, only one project per applicant will be selected.
  • 5. How long should my project's trailer or video clips be enough?
  • For Global Pitch, you must submit a teaser or trailer around 3 minutes.
    For Rough Cut Pitch, you must submit an edited sequence of the project or a selection of scenes around 40 minutes.
  • 6. I am an Asian filmmaker working outside of Asia. Am I eligible to apply for DMZ Docs Industry Program?
  • Yes, if one of the directors and producers is an Asian, we can accept it as an Asian project.
  • 7. Can I submit in English for Korean projects and in Korean for Asian projects?
  • If you are applying for a Korean project, your application must be in Korean.
    For Asian projects, please submit your application in English, even if you have Korean staffs. If you have a proposal in Korean, you can send us additional materials.
  • 8. My project is funded by DMZ Docs Fund 2022. Can I apply for DMZ Docs Pitch with the same project this year?
  • Yes, you can submit the same project for this year's DMZ Docs Pitch if you are at a stage of the production or rough cut.
  • 9. I received funding through another organization, is it possible to apply to the DMZ Docs Industry program (Fund, Pitch) this year?
  • For THE VODA FUND, Asian projects are eligible as long as they have not been selected for a fund or pitch by an organization outside of their home country. For DMZ Docs Pitch, you can apply even if you received funding from other organizations.
  • 10. How long will it take to complete the application?
  • We recommend reviewing the application form questions in order to prepare your answers and materials in advance. You can download the form as same as the online application.
  • 11. Can I request feedback if my project is not selected?
  • Due to the number of projects we receive, we are unable to provide feedback to all applications individually.
  • 12. Are the grant and prize money taxed?
  • THE VODA Fund grant that submits settlement and final reports after the periods we both agreed, so it¡¯s nontaxable. However, DMZ Docs Pitch grant and prize are taxable in accordance with the Korean tax law.
    Depending on the tax treaty between the recipient's country of residence and Korea, the withholding tax may be taxed only in the country of residence, only in the country of source, or both. So, we highly recommend to check in advance.
  • 13. What determines which countries are Asian?
  • There are 48 countries in Asia today, according to the United Nations. The full list is shown in the table via this link.
