DMZ Industry 2020 Project Submission

DMZ Industry, ‘One-stop’ documentary support platform based in South Korea, invites projects for our 2020 Industry programs. Projects in all stages of production (from pre-production to post-production and awaiting theatrical release) will be eligible for submission. There are two main submission categories:

  • DMZ Docs Fund that supports documentary projects in development or in production stage with its cash grants
  • DMZ Docs Pitch which provides business and networking opportunities

10 Korean/Asian projects

  • Early-stage projects under 30% in production
  • 5,000,000 KRW/per project (Approx. 4,100 USD/per project)
DMZ Project Fund

2 Korean / 1 Asian projects

  • 30-70% in production
  • Official invitation to DMZ Docs Lab 2020
  • Official invitation to DMZ Industry 2020 with pitching opportunity
  • DMZ Docs Match (business meeting service)
  • 15,000,000 - 30,000,000 KRW/per project
    (Approx. 12,300 - 24,600 USD/per project)
Post-production Fund

2 Korean projects

  • Projects submitted to the DMZ Docs 2020 call for entry
  • Projects that completed shooting and editing
  • In-kind support (D.I., Sound mixing, DCP Packaging)
  • Services will be available around July ~ August
Distribution Support Fund

2 Korean projects

  • Documentaries screened at the 12th DMZ Docs in 2020
    (More details will be announced soon.)
  • 10,000,000 KRW/per project
    (Approx. 8,200 USD/per project)

Rough Cut Presentation

6 Korean/Asian projects

  • Post-production or in the final stage of completion
  • Projects that have never been released or broadcast (except for at film festivals)
  • Official invitation to DMZ Industry 2020 with pitching opportunity
  • DMZ Docs Match business meeting service
  • Automatic consideration for the DMZ Industry Awards
    2020 (cash grants or in-kind support)
  • * Number of selected projects or amount of funding grants is subject to change.
3. Submission Process
  • Go to on-line Submission webpage within DMZ Industry website (industry.dmzdocs.com)

  • Fill out the on-line Submission form and submit it.
  • Successful applicants will receive confirmation email.
4. Selection Announcement

Individual notice to the applicants in late May or early June (exact dates TBA)

5. Eligibility

Prerequisites

  • Feature-length documentary projects (60 min. or longer) with aims of theatrical release or TV broadcast
  • Documentary projects created by directors/producers of Korean or Asian nationality

Development Fund
  • documentary projects in pre-production or development stage
DMZ Project Fund
  • documentary projects in 30~70% stage of production that contain topics the DMZ Docs aims for (DMZ, unification/separation, warfare, peace, communication, life, etc)
  • documentary projects that can be completed no later than August, 2021
  • documentary projects that provide the DMZ Docs with the first-look option - Premiere of the completed film at the DMZ Docs 2021(premiere condition can be changed or agreed upon after discussion)
Post-production Fund
  • Korean documentary projects in the post-production stage
  • Projects submitted to the DMZ Docs 2020 call for entry
  • Projects that completed shooting and editing
  • documentary projects that provide the DMZ Docs with the first-look option - Premiere of the completed film at the DMZ Docs 2021(premiere condition can be changed or agreed upon after discussion)
Distribution Support Fund
  • Korean documentaries screened at the 12th DMZ Docs 2020

DMZ Docs Pitch
Production Pitch
  • Korean/Asian documentary projects in 30~70% stage of production or International co-production with over 30% of Asian regional finance
Rough Cut Presentation
  • Korean/Asian documentary projects in post-production or finished stage
  • Projects that can submit 30 min-long excerpts of rough cut
  • Projects that have never been released or broadcast (except for at film festivals)

※ In case the project wins the DMZ Industry Award, the recipient agrees to provide the DMZ Docs with the first-look option - Premiere of the completed film at the DMZ Docs (Premiere condition varies depending on the winning category). This entitles the DMZ Docs to consider itself as the host of the film. However, it doesn’t guarantee the official invitation to the DMZ Docs, which is at the sole discretion of the selection committee of the DMZ Docs.

6. Obligations of the Recipient
  • Progress or accomplishment report upon request (e.g. film festivals, awards, international release, etc…)
  • Settlement/Expense report including audit report relating to the grant held
  • DMZ Docs Logo placement, acknowledgment as DMZ Industry official project or award winner in official publications, and insertion of opening/end credit provided by DMZ Docs in the completed film
  • Submission of the completed film with English subtitles (either in DCP or MOV) in an external hard drive to the DMZ Docs (excluding DMZ Docs Fund - Development Fund)
