Synopsis

Women have played a prominent role in Wuhan's Hanzheng Street clothing industry for generations. The sector faces pressure from e-commerce and the COVID-19 pandemic. We assess the current state by following various individuals.

Big Eyes Missy, a 65 years old veteran of Hanzheng Street, she dopted an unconventional approach during the pandemic. Despite scepticism, she quickly gained a loyal following, branding herself as a fashionable beauty who embraces age and enjoys her work. But the daily 8-hour streams took a toll on her health, leaving her struggling with the impact of aging.

Peng (Mid-40s) is an independent businesswoman determined to transform Wuhan Market's reputation, aiming to create a new local brand and eradicate pirated, low-quality clothing. Will she succeed?

Meanwhile, Qin (Mid-30s), a mother and factory owner, struggles to balance motherhood and business success. Can she excel in both roles?

Through the inspiring stories of women entrepreneurs from different generations in the wholesale clothing industry, we aim to explore the challenges, changes, and opportunities presented by the Wuhan and Chinese markets.

Director's Statement

As a director, I have always believed that a realistic film requires the director to form a certain emotional bond with the story. In 2020, COVID-19 raged in my hometown Wuhan. At that time, I worried about the people there and lived in anxiety. It was an unprecedented feeling that I was connected with the fate of a place. I could not forget that feeling.

Therefore, after everything returned to normal, I decide that my subsequent work must shoot a theme related to the people and the spirit of Wuhan. In this work, there are three female protagonists with distinct personalities, but I want to tell more than just their stories. No matter which era we are in, we all have our limitations and anxiety about being eliminated by the times. In such a situation, how can people maintain themselves and maintain vitality? This is the topic I want to discuss in the film, and it is also my sincere question as an individual.
