Thanh, Hoang and Phuong are three men born in the early 1960s. Since they were born, their fates seem to have slipped out of their hands. Not only were they born in the bloodiest time in Vietnam, they were also born in the geographical middle of the war—boundary of North and South Vietnam – the Province of Quang Tri.
44 years since the war finished, the three men and many others in the village still struggle to keep up with their life. Everyday, they gather in Thanh¡¯s house, drinking, fighting, talking and singing about the past, their lost loves and their coming death while hearing explosions of wartime bombs still being excavated from a distance.

I was a researcher at the Vietnam Institute of Culture and Art before becoming an independent filmmaker. Hanoi Doclab, a breakthrough documentary and video art center in Hanoi introduced to me to documentary as art which I later pursued in my master¡¯s degree in documentary directing in different universities in Europe under the DocNomads program of Erasmus Mundus. I am drawn to Vietnam¡¯s culture and history and the connection of our internal world with the world outside, especially in the postwar times of contemporary globalization.
