Submission Guidelines & Benefits

DMZ Docs Fund program extends support for the documentary projects in the entire filmmaking process, from development to pre-production, production, post-production, and even to theatrical release.

The Development Fund selects Korean and Asian projects in the stage of pre-production and development and provides a subsidy worth 5,000,000 Korean Won each. The DMZ Project Fund supports projects in the production stage, which contain topics the DMZ International Documentary Film Festival aims for. Laureate projects benefit production subsidies, pitching opportunities, business meetings, and pre-training workshops. The Post-Production Fund provides in-kind support which covers color correction, sound mixing, and DCP packaging so that the selected projects will be able to present their completed films in better quality - the first round mainly supports the official films invited to the 11th DMZ International Documentary Film Festival and the second round will call for entry after the Festival. The Distribution Support Fund, which will be incorporated in the DMZ Docs Awards, selects quality documentaries among the official selection and provides support fund for theatrical release, which will enable them to present their films to audiences through various platforms.

With the new establishment of DMZ Industry in 2019, the institution was able to secure an infusion of renewed funds and was able to support total of 17 documentary projects last year. This number accounts for 10 Development Fund projects, 3 DMZ Project Fund projects, 2 Post-production Fund projects, and 2 Theatrical Release Support projects. This year in 2020, DMZ Industry will continue its extensive support for promising projects from Korea and Asia.
