DMZ Docs Lab (2022.8.4.-8.8) Announcing 4 tutors

 

We are delighted to announce our four distinguished tutors from three different continents for our DMZ Docs Lab which is scheduled to be held from August 4 to 8 in Paju Jijihyang. Our tutors are Grace LEE, Brigid O¡¯SHEA, S. Leo CHIANG, Sunhee HAN. We hope our tutors and pitch participants can establish meaningful and fruitful connections through this workshop.

 

 

 

Grace LEE

Documentary Filmmaker

Co-founder of A-Doc

 

Grace LEE directed and produced two episodes of the Peabody Award-winning Asian Americans series as well as And She Could Be Next, a two-part film about women of color transforming U.S. politics and civic engagement, which was nominated for an NAACP Image Award. She also directed Peabody-winning American Revolutionary: The Evolution Of Grace Lee Boggs, The Grace Lee Project, Makers: Women In Politics, and the interactive piece K-TOWN¡¯92. She co-founded the Asian American Documentary Network (A-Doc), co-chairs the board of the International Documentary Association, and is Documentary branch member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.

 

 

Brigid O'SHEA

Consultant, Programmer

Co-Director of DAE

 

Brigid O¡¯Shea started at the Berlin International Film Festival, working for various departments including Berlinale Talents, Berlinale Co-Pro Market and the EFM. She went to DOK Leipzig in 2010 and was appointed head of DOK Industry in 2014. She left in 2021 to establish the Documentary Association of Europe. She freelances for many documentary institutions in Europe and production companies. She tutors across the globe on international co-financing and pitching as well as festival strategies and cultural management. She moderates and curates programmes on non-fiction filmmaking as an internationally-respected consultant with a wide and diverse network. She serves on the advisory boards of B2B Doc, Dokufest and Circle: Women Doc Accelerator, and is a programmer at Docs Barcelona.

 

 

S. Leo CHIANG

Documentary Filmmaker

Co-founder of A-Doc

 

S. Leo CHIANG is a filmmaker based in San Francisco and Taipei. His most recent film, OUR TIME MACHINE was nominated for an Emmy & a Gotham Award, and won awards at Tribeca, DocEdge, & 10 other international film festivals. He directed two episodes of the landmark 5-part PBS series, Asian Americans, which won a Peabody Award in 2021. His previous films include the Emmy-nominated A Village Called Versailles. He has served as a mentor for the Hot Docs CrossCurrent Fellowship, CNEX Chinese Documentary Forum, and AIDC (Australia). Leo co-founded A-Doc, and is a documentary branch member of the Academy.

 

 

Sunhee HAN

Documentary Producer, Educator

 

Sunhee HAN worked as the producer of feature-length documentary Talking Architect (2011), Manshin: Ten Thousand Spirits (2013) and The Basement Satellite (2013) among others. She also directed feature-length documentary Old Days (2016) and narrative short film Transmigration: the Turtle and the Women (2021). She has taught Documentary Producing at the masters program of the Korea National University of Arts since 2014. She also has been serving as professor of International Film Business Academy of the Busan Asian Film School, while developing various documentary and narrative fiction projects.
