Synopsis

Sun Hobin, an independent film director who suffers from chronic financial difficulties, meets Lee Sangtae, his college senior. Sun Hobin opens an account for stock-trading for the first time in his life, while producing a YouTube channel that provides stock information with Lee Sangtae as he has an MBA degree from UCLA. Sun Hobin rents a cheap house, prepares a good sum of money while collecting small sums of money, and invests it all in stocks. He wants the money to grow much bigger, so that he could move to an apartment and prepare for the future; but he can¡¯t sleep well at night, feeling the strong desire for money for the first time in his life.

Review

I want to make a movie about the desire for money. The material is ¡®me¡¯. An independent film director criticizes capitalism and highlights alienated people, but can¡¯t seem to make her/his own life easy. My son will soon enter the fourth grade in elementary school. I am depressed. I chose this life. I thought there would be something more important than money. However my son may pay the price; he might not have choices like mine. My father, a member of the middle class, had a stable job. I am a freelancer who is always forced to worry about money coming in a month at a time.Due to the repetitive fear and anxiety, I have changed. I want money. At least, I want to give my son options. Though I don¡¯t know how to make a lot of money.
I aim to produce the documentary film, revealing things that happen and the ethical and social issues that follow in the pursuit of money. Don(Money Documentary) aims to follow the style of Capitalism: A Love Story(Michael Moore, 2009) and Super-Size Me(Morgan Spurlock, 2004), yet produced in a uniquely Korean way regarding the subject of money.
