Synopsis

After the wave of #MeToo movement stories from various circles, how did survivors of sexual violence return to their normal lives? Finding the new ¡®normal¡¯ is now in the hands of those individuals. Even though the cases were closed, their memories always take them back to the past. Blighted by violence, their bodies stiffen up even with little touches. From getting out of bed, taking a shower, to leaving the house, every day is a battle with themselves. While many survivors feel their body still remain in the past, dance therapists, choreographers and feminist activists have gathered and plan a movement workshop for trauma recovery. They feel their fingertips again and they move their toes. They re-experience inhaling and exhaling in a safe place. To survive this moment, they move together, and they prepare themselves for a return to daily lives.

Review

One of the reasons why depression is more prevalent in women than men is due to social structures; from traumatic violence, hierarchical discrimination, to trivial micro-aggressions experienced throughout daily life. Patriarchal social structures are not only responsible for the prevalence of depression in women, but also their survival. Judith Herman said the PTSD left by sexual violence is the result of the shattered belief ¡°that I am valuable, that others will stay with me, and that the world is a place worth living.¡± In order to restore collapsed faith in everyday life, the survivor must rebuild the perceptive system. The process of recovery is never pleasant. It is a very slow process. Grounding is a practice to restore daily life through cinema with survivors of sexual violence. The survivors, dance therapists, choreographers, and feminist activists gather to run the movement workshop ¡®Sang-woman¡¯s Grounding Techniques¡¯.
